ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Dave Manousos is a fine artist originally from Oakland, CA, now residing in Northern California Gold Country, Sutter Creek. He regularly displays his artwork in the San Francisco Bay Area, northern California Sacramento region, and Southern California, including Las Laguna and San Diego. He has also exhibited on the East Coast and recently in Palma, Spain, and Zurich, Switzerland.

His specialty is acrylic medium painting. The “Big Eye Collection” combines his illustration and painting techniques, featuring an oversized eye on one side of the face. The original Big Eye was a spontaneous reaction to a stroke laid down on the canvas. Now it has come to symbolize the greater body of his work. Over time he realized the eye became more than just a feature — it became a window into personality of the piece.

He has always been drawn to the playful yet tragic aspects of life, which is reflected in his artwork. Growing up in a family of 11 siblings, he knows what it feels like to get lost in the shuffle, especially as the middle child. His paintings often incorporate happy and sad moments pulled from his childhood experiences.

In his compositions, he aims to capture the subtle nuances of character and emotion. Through the strategic use of color, texture, and composition, he brings forth the essence of his subjects onto the canvas. The result is a collection of paintings that evoke nostalgia, emotions, and a sense of timelessness. He hopes that his art triggers powerful memories for those who view it.
