It is the longest day. It is the longest night.

Photography by Nevan Swanson

Nevan Swanson (b. 1996) is an artist living in Portland, Maine. He works primarily with photography and moving images. He earned a BA from Bowdoin College, studied at FAMU in Prague, and was a 2018 recipient of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. He previously co-director New System Exhibitions, a project space devoted to providing solo shows to emerging and mid-career artists.

Through his work, Nevan considers what documents hold in themselves and confronts notions of memory and loss, keeping and sharing. His practice is an exercise in paying attention, in spending time with people and their environments in an effort to find connection and reciprocity. Nevan often works on long-term projects, making bodies of work over the course of several years.
