Master Apartments is an Art Deco landmark cooperative apartment building located on a beautiful, quiet enclave at the end of a tree-lined block at the edge of Riverside Park at 103rd Street and Riverside Drive.

The tallest building on Riverside Drive, the 28-story, 300-plus unit building commands sweeping views in all directions, to the Hudson River, the George Washington Bridge, midtown Manhattan, northern New Jersey, and the bridges of the East River and Long Island Sound.

Designed by Harvey Wiley Corbett, the building’s distinctive Art Deco detailing, terraced setbacks and stupa are easily identified from Riverside Park and the Henry Hudson Parkway. Its corner windows are reputed to be the first in Manhattan.

Since its conversion to a cooperative in 1988, many of the Master’s smaller apartments — the preponderance of the units in the building are studios — have been combined to produce magnificent apartments, some with multiple terraces and staggering views. The larger layouts are attracting more families to the community.

The Master’s grand lobby has been restored, storage areas have been installed with lockers of all sizes, a state-of-the-art bike room was added and the large laundry facility was renovated. Just recently its hallways were completely remodeled. With a full-time concierge in the lobby, large maintenance staff and onsite management office, the Master is a safe and comfortable — some would say luxurious — place in which to live.

Conveniently located two blocks west of the Number 1 subway station, the Master offers easy access to the diverse shopping, dining and nightlife of the Upper West Side and the restaurants, cafes, book stores and shops surrounding the Columbia University campus a few blocks uptown.

With its rich history, ideal location, and diverse mix of long-term and recent residents with varied interests, the Master retains its distinctive character as a vibrant, creative, hospitable community — a cooperative in the best sense of the word.
